Minelab X-Terra 705, Garrett Ace 150

« on: December 18, 2009, 10:10:13 AM »

Hi, all. I'm a newbie who's looking to buy my first detector. I've been doing some research online and I like the look of the Garrett Ace 150. It's got some good reviews and is within my price range. I would like to hear the opinions of members who've used this unit before I buy one. Also, the cheapest place I've found is Amazon where it's £119.99 with £6 shipping which I think is good. So, any thoughts, folks? Many thanks.

Hi Leighton, get the 250 much better machine for the little extra. Have a look at the 250 its a very good starter machine and you might get one for less than £100 on e bay

Hiya mate, i use the ace 150 , it's exactely the same circuit board built in as the 250.

Bought mine from Regton £126.26,  had it the next day and a full 2 year warrentee...

Only difference between the two is the 250 has two extra modes plus a pinpointer.

I went for the 150 purely because thats all i could stretch too, but i have'nt been dissapointed mate.

It's deep seeking, your can learn to pinpoint with it with in 5 minutes, and i did'nt need the extra settings, because in the field i use the all metal mode anyhow.  On the beach i use the jewellry mode, but don't use the coin mode as it knocks out some of the newer coins.

It's lightweight and when broken down into 3 parts fits neatly into rucksack, easy to transport across the fields mate.

It's purely a switch on and go machine.......

I can't knock the machine at all , what i found was , if the goodies are there you'll find them.

Cheers Ace  Wink

Wow! Thanks, Paul. I just looked on the Regton site at the 150 and you get free headphones, a dvd and a coil cover too. PLUS postage is free on orders over £100. Thanks for the tip, bud. ;-)

......SOULD BE GREAT LITTLE STARTER FOR YOU,OR TRY ONE OF THE VIKINGS.BRITISH MADE TO.
EVEN BETTER,WHEN YOU FINNISHED PLAYING AROUND WITH THESE MACHINES.GO FOR A PRO...LIKE A T2 OR F75..NOW YOUR IN THE BIG LEAGUE!!!THATS WHAT I USE....GWIL.
WILL BE GOING TO THE OVERTON RALLY,YOU ARE CERTINALY WELCME TO TRY OUT THE 250 IF YOU WISH FOR THE DAY......UNLESS ANY MINELABS BREAKDOWN!!!OOOOPS AGAIN HAHA!!...AS YOU CAN SEE NOT MUCH OF A MINELAB FAN.MACHINES ARE GREAT..BUT ITS LIKE SWINING A BUS .ONE YEAR OF THIS YOU LOOSE YOUR FIGERS THEN YOUR ARMS................

Hi  Leighton,  my son has the 150 and i have used it on the odd occasion and have found it a very good general purpose machine, i was out with a friend who was using a Minelab Quattro and we were checking the signals with both machines, this site was permanent pasture and the 150 picked up every signal that the Quattro found.

I am not saying that the 150 is as deep as the Quattro but it shows that the 150 can do the job.

On the beach for coins and jewellery you cannot go wrong, it will knock out all the bottle tops and ringpulls but pick up the goodies, just what you need.

Garrett have certainly hit the spot with these machines.

Go on to youtube and see Norfolk Wolfs video on the machine, he can't fault it.

All the best,

Steve.

Thanks for telling me about the You Tube video, Steve. There is a shortened version of it on the Regton web site, but it was good to see the whole thing.

Thanks, Ace. I'm hoping the token hunt in January will be a good field test for the detector. I'll be sure to put on my thermals though, lol.
