Unfortunatelly couldnt make the rally today but had an hour or two spare, so decided to call in at the Cardiff Coin Fair at City Hall. It was the first time for me and found it quite interesting with other collectables such as cigarrete cards, autographs etc. I took with me a couple of coins which I am looking to sell at the right price, two staters and a Roman Siliqua, each one extreemly fine. Two stalls were polite and said it wasnt for them, fine.
I knew the total value of the three was anything from £3k up which one of the stall holders confirmed.
I walked over to another dealer who had a different story all together. Wait for it!
The price he gave for the three was £320
He said they were common and of no real value. Dobunni Eisv Full Gold Stater £200, Atribatis Quater Stater £100 and Victor Flavius Siliqua £20.
My look must have said it all, I thanked him for his time and walked away. Either he didnt have a clue what he was talking about or he was after a very very quick buck.As I walked away I couldnt resist looking back to make sure he didnt have a fin sticking out from his back.
Oh and the stalls name SALTFORD COINS!
