Can anyone recommend a decent pair of gloves for detecting, preferably ones that they have used and can comment on.

I need roughy, toughy mans gloves, as the soil is playing havoc with my hands and I broke a nail on the last rally !

Ive tried a few pairs on gloves in my time you shouldnt really detect without them, you never know what you can pick up from the soil

I buy the £1 ones from markets and cheap shops they got a water resistant front and a cloth back so your hands can breath

They come in orange and lime green as a rule

I use gloves made by a firm called Mapa, light, sensitive and very tough (that sounds like a condom advert) if you google mapa 375 gloves that's the ones I use.Highly recommended.

PS. Sorry to hear about your broken nail Nick, you must have been devastated... ;)

i use sealskins there waterproof and very warm but cost £25 but worth every penny.  mike

Thanks for all your replies. I did as Phil suggested and bought the ones with waterproof fingers and cloth back, only £1.99 locally. I will invest in some more expensive ones at a later date.

He also has a point about potential nasties in the soil. Some parasites can lurk for 20+ years, not just in soil but on fences/ gates etc. Liver fluke springs to mind.

its hard for me to get gloves me shovels are to big xl are like 2 sizes to small any help for big bugg@rs

i always wear gloves and recommend to other that they should too.....you just dont know whats in the soil etc.....i use rubber fronted ones with material backs ....they keep me dry and allow my hands to breathe......byron
