I am trying to make some web pages with Dreamweaver .
All the text are ok when I upload them to the sever but the pics do no show, all I see is a sqaure with a small cross in the top left hand side of the quare.

I have had several mails fom the server help but with no luck

The server wrote back and said that "regarding your concern. All your images source are on the folder assets and currently they are on the root directory.  As we have double check your files all of them are still pointing into your local computer andon the webserver where your files are. Please try to check the sources
of your images on your files"

I had a look and all the pics here not in the root directory but in the Document where they should show up.

If you go to http:''//detectoruser.co.uk and have a look you will see what I mean.
Thank you.

Doesn't look as if you've uploaded your images to the folder that the link is pointing to:
i.e. your 'me' points to = http://detectoruser.co.uk/assets/GIFS/me.jpg
but on following it I get a default page saying the image isn't there.
You need to access that folder on the server that you are using and upload your image into it (the me one) and
likewise for your other images.
How do you upload to your server? Do you use their own system or something like Cuteftp (Google for free 30 day trial) which is a standalone
program that usually is easier to use than a server provider's own software. You can also upload in a simplified
manner by just using Internet Explorer itself (Google for tips)

Hello Bob,
I thank you for this info, why they could not guide me I don't know.
I shall try to do as you say and see what happens.
I upload them in Dreamweaver and they go up OK.
If I am still not successful I will try the oether ways you suggest.
By the way Alan, I clicked on the address and it is istill the same.

Bob,
I have got it going now. What had happened was that I had all my files in folders within a folder called assets, that is why it could not point to them.
I have now put them all together in the same folder which is HTMLFiles. This is listed on the server as HTMLfiles so thanks for your help.

Hi Charles,
Glad to have been of help. It's all down to the 'root' of your site being set-up correctly
and everything that points to certain folders having the correct 'root' address, and, obviously
that the folder that is pointed to does have the graphic within it. Be aware that some of your
pictures still don't show up. Perhaps you might be seeing them on your own machine
because they are still in your 'cache' and you might be seeing them from there. An easy way to test
this is to refresh the page you are viewing whilst also holding down the ctrl key. Then it will request
a fresh page from your server and disregard what you have stored in cache.

Best,
Bob

PS Caveat (I'm only self-taught so any professional programmer reading my ramblings is probably
having a good laugh at my amateurism!)
