M8 i would tread carefully (forgive the pun) make absolutely certain you have his permission to detect on his land. The problem might come if you happen to find somthing of value. If he wants a contract but then refuses to sign one, that just might indicate problems further down the line.

If treasure trove was found, he could insist that you were trespassing.

We all as said in most cases have a gentlemans agreement, the shxt nearly always hits the fan when greed and money is at stake. The bottom line with any farmland, whatever is found it really belongs to the owner.

I am lucky in that i have probably more farms than anyone on here, and even when i come across awkward land owners, i just steer clear, it just isnt worth the hassel.  Wink

I have around 3000 spread across 5 farms, and my two mates have 3000 we land share between us.

As Chef says with that amount of land, to detect this properly you will be dead long before you would need to move on. Get yourself a GPS tracker and use it while detecting and that field you thought was done will have huge areas that you
have missed unless you methodically Grid the whole field. Anyway any permission I have is for detecting permission as has been previously stated the law states the value is 50/ 50 landowner and yourself for any finds of value. Good hunting anyway.
