This question isn't aimed at the gold coinage, staters or hoards we all live in hope of finding.

More like - what "relatively common" find still avoids you at all cost? I know a few members in the past have struggled to find a Crotal Bell (ahem Cheffy), a Half Crown (cough The Doc) and even a solitary Roman coin (ah, Raymondo). Thankfully these members have all put those ghosts to rest in the past few years. What still eludes you though at every sweep of the coil?

I know one member has been waiting 15 years to find a hammered coin in any condition. It didn't help several rallies ago when I turned one up within feet of him! Sorry mate - you know who you are. Lips sealed

For me the following are not that common, but I seem to see them found relatively frequently either by mates or on DW rallies and they include:

A hooked Tudor clothes tag. Found receivers, but never the hooked tags.
A personal seal of any kind - be it a vessica, matrix, lead, silver or copper alloy - not that common granted, but they dodge me.
Anything Bronze Age that is recognisable. Hardly a sniff of anything!
A properly worked flint. Plenty of cast off, but nothing properly napped.

So, be it a Jews Harp, a fibula, a Roman coin  or a Thimble, whats dodging your coil?

Cheers
Neil

Tell me about it - Jaydogg and Mark find them frequently when out with me. I only have one to my name that I just pipped Napoleon to finding. He's never let me forget it!

Apart from them,,,,,,,,,,,What would I like to find,,,,,,,,,Everything Else. Roll Eyes

No to be honest, my wish is for a nice Lizzy sixpence. Not a lot to ask really, I'm easy to please.
