Lovely coin Neil  :) Its a roman republican coin, looks like Trebanius 135bc, head of roma, Republican coins can come in hoards, or maybe from a early military site, well done.

Hi John - thanks for the ID as well.

Not sure I have a photo of it? Is it the item you showed me in the car? I think we forgot to take a picture of it.

Happy christmas

Neil

I think you are all wrong, obviously the MAS is missing on the profile side , so obviously it is a profile of XMAS (the young father xmas of course) and he started off using horses (reverse) but found that they hadn't got the stamina of reindeer.  ;D Merry Christmas all!

Very nice coin Neil. I've clearly got competition in the ID game on here ;D

However, I don't think you can say this is a denarius of Trebanius unless there is clear evidence of the lettering as shown on here. Also the figure in the biga is different:

http://www.coinarchives.com/a/lotviewer.php?LotID=159074&AucID=194&Lot=319 (http://www.coinarchives.com/a/lotviewer.php?LotID=159074&AucID=194&Lot=319)

If there is no lettering visible, then I think it could only be described as an "un-named denarius" with Victory in a biga reverse (note the wings which indicate that it's Victory rather than another driver). Date likely to be c.189-170BC.
