As your machine is still under warranty Flipper I'd leave well alone. If it had to go back for repair it's an odds on bet that those nice people at Tesoro would notice that it had been taken apart therefore invalidating the warranty.

Pentechnics   www.pentechnic.co.uk/ (http://www.pentechnic.co.uk/)   will do an upgrade for you to optimise your detector. It doesn't invalidate the warranty

Its the "Plus Upgrade" you need.

As for the hot area under the coil you would be hard pushed to find a concentric coil that has a inverted cone shape. This was an attempt by manufacturers of machines with widescan coils to convince people that they needed to change detectors.
The actual responsive area underneath a true concentric is more like a squashed balloon.

Double D widescan can have a less wide scan width than the concentric at a few inches of depth and don't provide the "wiper" effect thats often suggested, though the narrow live band along the length of the coil does indeed suffer less ground effect.
