Title: Anyone Tried Penarth Post by: 150aceboy on October 29, 2009, 12:35:44 AM I recently tried the detector, under and around the pier in Penarth.
Being Victorian i thought at least i would find an old coin, how wrong i was ???. Found around £5 in modern coinage, and lots of junk, such as pieces of copper cables etc. Has anyone ever found anything old around the pier area. Good Hunting Ace ;). Title: Re: Anyone Tried Penarth Post by: TheLoveDoc on October 29, 2009, 06:53:07 AM Hallo mate.... i havent tried it myself but i have heard of a few people having the same idea as you and detecting around the pier mate , which probably accounts for the lack of old finds fella .....

he said he found hundreds of pre-dec coins there, a lot were fused together, Alan Title: Re: Anyone Tried Penarth Post by: 150aceboy on October 29, 2009, 01:23:39 PM No wonder i found no old stuff then :D, Cheers boys,

Title: Re: Anyone Tried Penarth Post by: Al.Thepastfinder, ( Alan ) on October 29, 2009, 03:01:57 PM yeah, it was a popular place years ago when they first came out, there used to be a detectorist shop in Crewys road Cardiff years ago and he had loads from there, he use to have a load of fused together ones in his window too, Sorry mate,

I remember the shop in Crwys Rd well, it belonged to Cliff and Betty Green and I bought my first machine from them for £50 as a Christmas present for Kevin my son when he was about 14years old, he has just had his 47th birthday !! As a matter of interest they helped set up the Scan club with myself and a few others. About Penarth, we searched it in those days and found the usual coins etc along the beach and I heard stories of the odd Sovereign being found by a pipe outlet on the beach. The best we had was a very nice 18ct knot ring which my wife still has, I think from memory that it dates to the early 1900's. Pat. ;) ;) Title: Re: Anyone Tried Penarth Post by: Al.Thepastfinder, ( Alan ) on October 29, 2009, 04:56:58 PM heyyyy nice one on the ring Pat, i bet this thread brings back to memories hey

Title: Re: Anyone Tried Penarth Post by: Jeffc on October 29, 2009, 05:50:52 PM Same as Pat - tried it a few times around 25 years ago (!) and picked up pre-decimal copper but I know people had taken a lot of Victorian silver off previously. Trouble was not much depth above the rock and a lot of rubbish.
