Hello
Any tips on how to get rid of bronze disease. As You can see I have managed to get rid of most of the blue and green powder on it but there is still more stubborn bit eaten into it. I really want to do the right the thing for this artifact as I really like it.
Been advised on internet to remove all of this green and blue bits then put in oven for half hour at 250 degrees. then place in disstilled water.
any good advise taken on board
thanks
wayne

Dont know about the oven to be honest wayne.

Best way I found was soak in distilled water for a few days use something wooden like a toothpick  (or maybe something stronger with a large artifact. Change Water and soak again.  Keep repeating process whilst replacing water when it discolours.

Think it will have to be stronger than wooden pick really inbeded and eaten right into  it. Does the water soften it

Hi wayno mucker stunning mate , when you bake it it will stop the bronze disease to spread for a while but only one thing with that it may change the patina but my advice is to do it use some wax , I use vasseline and I would frame it so no air and mosture .Nordine.

To be honest I was thinking of using the dremel on it nice and gently to take all the disease out of it. As it is really in beded in it and can only eat at it more if I dont remove it

Nice find Wayno love it mate - I would speak to your local museum about how they would preserve it personally. A great day with a denarii thrown in as well!

see you soon

As Neil has said this is a job that is a bit specialised so get professional advice. I wouldn't even of touched it until it was recorded, but alas you have Cry
The heating will stop it for only as long as it takes for moist air to get to it again,  you can use as much wax as you like but it needs chemical treatment to stop it.

Cheers Geoff I thought it would be better to clean all the disease off it as much as I could without going over the top as It will be a time before I have any time to go to ther museum probably weekend thanks
