Headed out with Mike today to the "Badger's Set" for a change from the mud and to see if the recent storms had released anything from Davy's locker.

On arrival there was just one sole detectorist, but within the hour I counted 11 - how did you all get on?

I have never dug a beach like it. Of a estimated 70 holes I dug I failed to find a single bottle top or ring pull. Not that I am complaining, but where were they?

The main theme of the day was bullets? I haven't emptied my boot yet, but the first photo gives a taste of the amount just from my pocket. I think Mike had even more than me.

Finds of interest include two enamel badges and a Officers RAF cap badge that has sadly lost its crown (at least I think that's what it is).

Another interesting find appears to be the inners of a watch or some kind of instrument - possibly silver (we have eggs with silver foil) and not sure what the arms are made of - sat diluting before the dremmel comes out tomorrow.

Tons of coins from 1946 to about 1966 but strangely no earlier ones. Where were the Vickys and milled silvers?

Heading back to the warmth of the motor and the last signal of the day was heavily encrusted and about 10 inches down - I saw it emerge from the bottom of the hole. I have knocked the coating off - came off in one piece and speculatively considering it as a cannon shot - 5 inches round - could be grape shot and appears to be stamped on one side. Not a ball bearing.

Great day out - thoroughly recommend it to everyone.

Cheers Mike
Neil

A nice day's haul there Neil; some interesting finds. It's strange, isn't it; Richie Sixpence and I have been detecting the sands at Talacre for almost three years and neither of us has ever found a single Victorian coin. I have found Elizabeth II pre-decimal and decimal, George IV, and George V coins. I have even found a George III halfpenny, but
never a Victorian coin.

Thinking on your cap badge and the possible watch remains; has there ever been an aircraft crashed on the beach you were working?

Yes very interesting. A serious subject but I couldn't help finding this little snippet funny. Two rabbits killed. Casualties of war lol

Two horses were injured and two rabbits killed.
