Hi,

Found this yesterday, it came out black so i was hoping it was a silver  Wink

I did a very quick aluminium and spit test yesterday but i did not feel any heat or the smell........ may try another to confirm but starting to think it is a dark bronze now.

Nice condition coin, well found.  Don't know the first thing about Who but I think the little bits a green says it's bronze.

Don't try getting the black off though. You'll loose the profile.

It's a bronze although it would have been silvered at one time.

It's of Constantine II (CONSTANTINVS IVN NOB C) - the revese is BEATI TRANQVILLITAS looks like PLC as the mint mark - so Lyon (Lugdunum) - it dates to ~320AD - the denomination is Ae3 / reduced follis (which ever is your poison)

Well looking at it more closely, there are the letters 'C' and (because I looked it up) 'R' either side of the altar - the altar itself will say VO / TIS / XX - thanks for 20 years (referring to his father, Constantine the great).

Here's a link to an image:-

Given that the link is RIC 181v, I'm pretty sure it's the same type as my first ever found roman coin (I'd been collecting for some 15 years before I picked up a detector in earnest and found something!)
