Post by: Rob Two Spades on July 13, 2017, 01:30:32 PM
Found this last Sunday but I'm struggling to find it. Any ideas? I can't even read the mintmark :(

Many thanks

I struggled to see the PTR in the mint mark - and I was correct - it should be II T R - so the second mint workshop, but as you said from Trier:-

Maximianus AE Follis. 302-303 AD. Trier.

Obv: IMP MAXIMIANVS AVG, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right

Rev: GENIO POPV-LI ROMANI S-F, Genius standing left, modius on head, naked except for chlamys over left shoulder, holding patera and cornucopiae, S-F across fields. Mintmark IITR.

Cracking coin Rob, has it been rubbed by any chance or is that how it was dug up.  ;)
