Title: polar ice cap meltdown
Post by: mickycoin "mick" on March 11, 2009, 12:48:35 PM
Hi every one,  i watched the news yesterday and the boffins predict a rise in sea level by one meter by 2100. should we all run out and buy a bigger freezer, with an automatic defroster set for that date.?? if i am correct the tide will then be going out a lot further , if fact a loooooooooooong way further, not being a beach man myself  all i can say is" lucky buggers" it will be finds beyond your wildest dreams    mick

Like the guys above I can't understand how the tide would go out further if there was more water.

Help! ???

Richy.

If you check the tidal heights, (I do when i go fishing) The higher the tide in metres (Hight tide mark) , the further it will go out (Low tide mark) So when you hear the fishermen talking about a spring tide. go detecting on the low mark.

hi rob as i also used to go sea fishing, and on the highest tides of the year ,all fishermen would desend on tenby armed with a bottle of salt, on that tide the water always goes out further, and would reveal the razor fish holes, the rest goes without saying. pour in the salt and out pop the razor fish. i know why the razor fish pop out but not why the tide does what it does "moon" "month" "weather conditions"  must be a scientific reason  mick

AHHH!!!
Spring tides are to do with the moon and it's gravitational pull on the ocean. if we had more water then it would only go out pro rata
