These objects have been baffling me for ages, have asked loads of people and nobody has any real idea. They appear to be bronze, are all uniform in size and shape, have no markings or decoration that I can see. Have all come from the same area. They all weigh between 10 & 11 grams. 35mm long, 11mm wide tapering to 2mm, 4mm deep, slit extends to 15mm on each. Am going to take them up to the farmer this weekend to see if they're anything agricultural, if not off to local museum, who, I've just found out offer an object ID service. I studied your 'thingies' with interest when you 1st posted the pici. Amazing what comes up, isn't it. Intrigueing to say the least. I have a couple of items that we haven't managed to I.D. I asked Hubbie if he had any idea. He was an Engineer so tends to look at things from a different perspective. He seems to think they were mechanical bits of some sort, possibly relating to a cog. ??? but nothing that he has seen himself. They have some age thats for sure. Post by: herbie on July 29, 2011, 09:34:05 AM Cheers Val, I know what you mean about the machinery aspect, that's why I thought I'd ask the farmer if he had any ideas, I wondered about them being some sort of counterweights, but that's pure conjecture, will let you know how I get on.
