Stopped off at  one of my sites this morning just for a couple of hours, this came up with my first signal. After this it was all down hill lol, one Georgian grott and a musket ball.
Still I'm well pleased with the Sestertius, It's Antoninus Pius which makes it quite early (138-161) compared with most of the Roman coins I have been getting lately.

Nearly forgot this one, not that exciting but a first for me. We all find hundreds if not thousands of pot mends over the course of the years, but this is the first time I have found one in situ. Whoever mended the pot should be proud that it held.......the rest of the pot fell apart, but the mend worked Cheesy

Ohhhh - I love that Chef - it would sit pride of place in my collection.

Incredibly hard to date pot mends {I think Paul asked about that on sunday}, but you can certainly date the pottery. Is it from your Roman site? From beyond Roman to Victorian times people were unaware enough of the risks to drink and eat out of vessels with great big lumps of lead in them.

Absolutely love it! Great find. Can you bring it next time we meet up?

cheers

Yes no problem Neil I'll pop it in my bag. It was from one of the Roman fields, it seems to have taken on some of the colour of the natural clay but underneath it looks as if It could of been Grey Ware, but whether Roman or Medieval is another question.
