Help please Peter, Geoff or anyone. pictured here is a Lead object I found on the new farm. When I found it I thought it was a door escutcheon, but when I cleaned it and put it by my collection of Spindle Whorls the size was the same as the spindle whorls though the shape to me is wrong it has cast a seed of doubt. Any chance of an ID and a date as the other escutcheons I have found have all been copper alloy.

Not seen one like it, but could well be a spindle whorl. I know they are not usually this shape, but was the exact  shape actually crucial to their function?
