I've had mine a while and wouldn't go 'tectin without it. A solid bit of kit that makes other probes look like toys. :)

I agree with Richy - great piece of kit - easy to use, very solid build - a bit pricey, but well worth the money. I've had mine a few months and, like Richy, wouldn't go detecting without it. :)

I'm thinking of getting another probe, I've trashed my whites bullseye. Would definately invest in the Garret.

Had a few probes over the years which have all broken.

The Garrett is the best made and designed. Expensive at £84 but worth
every penny. Very rugged and feels unbreakable.

Vibrates the closer you get to a target and can detect about 4/5 inches
away. Has good noise and light which illuminates target and informs
when machine switched on.

Hope this helps.

Ive had mine a couple of weeks now and its well worth the money, the closer to the target you get the more intense the tone from the probe gets mate its that simple...... really easy to clean to fella as you can wash it under a tap but cover the speaker area with your thumb just for added protection when washing  ;)

Don't own one myself but have used LoveDoc's Garrett Probe, thats all i can tell you mate their well worth the money, excellent  mate, loud and spot on at finding even the smallest of targets, and easy to clean, great item.  ;) ;)

Just a word, Staffs detectors have just started selling the pistol probe. OK it's £120 but god it's sensitive.

I've used the Garrett, Jo, when I was out with friends and it is AWESOME!

Post by: Salty (Karl) Cardiff Scan Club on December 23, 2009, 11:08:31 AM
Thats a cracking price for the pistol probe, i have the uniprobe version, its awesome but unfortunately drives my e-trac mental, i cant tune either machine out to ignore each other (my old quattro was not too bad with it) I wonder if that pistol probe would be the same?
The Garret probe that i now use instead is very good indead, no messing about tuning it in, just switch it on and bobs your mothers brother :)
Rarely falses and has a good depth for a non P.I. probe
£75 from Laura in Detectnicks Delivered. :)

Cant help on this one ive used a Sherlock for years. as long as you keep them dry they last for years.
How easy is it to use a Garrett ?
With the Sherlock it can detect a coin size item at about 2 inchs, bigger items anything up to 12 inchs
Does the extra sensitivity and depth make it harder to pinpoint the target quickly  ??
you can pick DTS and sherlocks up for around £25 pounts now

all the best
Phil

Ive been searching for a Probe comparison review on the internet, bt cant seem to find one, does anyone have a link to one?

I can then persuade Joanne to go for a cheaper one and buy myself one at the same time  ;D ;D ;D

Title: Re: Garret Probe
Post by: Salty (Karl) Cardiff Scan Club on December 23, 2009, 11:36:53 AM
I would say don't buy anything less than the Garret, Its so simple, just hit the button and off you go.
The Sherlocks and that you have to tune each time, yes for £25 they do the job, but in my opinion its absolutely worth biting the bullet and getting the garret.
Don't what ever you do by the bounty hunter pinpointer,i bought one for Mandy for Christmas.. It's utter Cr*p, Hence my statement on spending the extra dosh, it's going to cost me more in the long run now :-[
see if you can borrow one to try at a rally, you'll not use another one after, its a shame they cost as much as they do, but i think there worth it.
I have a Sunray In line probe on my e-trac that uses the detectors circuit and discrimination, so you don't pinpoint iron instead of the non ferrous you were looking fore, but the garret still comes out first and 9 times out of ten, its all i need, and the battery last for ever! :)

Title: Re: Garret Probe
Post by: Chef Geoff on December 23, 2009, 11:56:25 AM
The Garrett is a lot better made than the Sherlock and has the advantage as Salty has said of not needing to be tuned, As for sensitivity then I could not measure any difference between the Garrett, Sherlock or whites bullseye.
I like Phil use a Sherlock (when I remember it) and cant bring myself to spend an extra £84 for something that only does the same thing, regardless of quality.
Though I would think about looking at the pistol probe at £120 as it has a greater range when and IF needed.

are there different types of garret probes because karl mentioned the price of £75,i almost sure on the w/w rally in sept they were asking £36 in the main tent

Title: Re: Garret Probe
Post by: Salty (Karl) Cardiff Scan Club on December 23, 2009, 12:59:25 PM
I'd be gobsmacked if you could get one for £36, they go second hand on e-bay almost for what you can get them new of Laura.are you sure it wasn't £86?
I tell you what Geoff, the uniprobe has a good 6" on a small target, really handy when you get one of those Minelab disappearing signal moments when you take out the plug.
The pistol probe is supposed to be better.

Title: Re: Garret Probe
Post by: rjm on December 23, 2009, 01:09:01 PM
Hi

I've used a few probes over the years and they've all broken. Basically they weren't up to the job.

I've had the Garrett Probe for about a year now and it's had a hammering. It's still on the original
PP3 battery. It cost me £83 but it's the best money I've spent. Excellent quality and as Karl said,
needs no tuning: Just switch on and use!

It vibrates the closer you are to a target and works on its side or tip. Simply: It's brilliant!!!

It may seem expensive but you get what you pay for. Don't waste your money on anything else.

I've had the Whites Bullseye (didn't break but was useless so sold it), Sherlock (two of them)
which were £25 each. Water ingress stopped one working so gave it to Karl who had to do repairs
and mods to get it working again. My son has the other and he complains it 's "useless Dad!". Had
Joan Allen one  etc etc.

In fact the Garrett probe is so good I have TWO. One is still in the box incase the one I'm using
gets lost, stolen or needs company   LOL!!

Get it as a Xmas Present!

Bob

I've got a Whites bullseye and its terrible. Ok when new but the range is very very small. I've used Walton basinmans and Debbies Garret and they are worth every penny. Robust build and very very good at doing the job its meant to do. As soon as I have £80 spare that will be my next detecting purchase. I'm desperate for one with my Sef coil!  ;D

Hi Viv, just read my post back, it wasn't meant to sound funny, sorry if it came over that way.
They only make the one probe from what i can see, if you ever see them for £50 or under, get as many as you can, you'll sell them all day long for £70+ on E-bay.

Hi Phil, it's a clone of the bounty hunter, total complete and utter sh*te.
It says it vibrates Lol, its the buzzer buzzing :o it has a stand off of about 2mm!!! >:(
I've ripped the one i bought Mandy apart, i couldn't be bothered to send it back to JA, i'm winding a custom coil for it and altering some components to try and salvage something for the kids to use.
Ultimately i'm going to have to buy her a Garret.
I wonder if enough of us want them, whether we could get a bulk discount? as i said Laura in detectnicks knocks them out for £75 if you ask her nicely, including the delivery

Title: Re: Garret Probe
Post by: Legacy Hunter on December 23, 2009, 06:35:13 PM
Karl it would be good if we could get a discount by ordering in bulk cause by the sound of it quite a few people want them on here I need one as Steve keeps shouting at me cause I pinch his all the time hehehe  ;D :D You are also right about the bounty hunter as I have 2 of them and they are rubbish and it does feel as if it is the buzzer you can feel not exactly a vibration as such dont waste your money phil just fork out and buy a garrett you wont regret it at all if you want i can bring steves garrett to the next club meeting(AGM) and you can have a look at it they are wicked

I'll give Nick or Laura a bell on the 27th ans see what they can do, it looks like we have 5 potential at the moment, if the price is right i may get a spare making it 6.
Any others out there interested?
Laura is a member of DW if i recall too. I get discount from the MLO sight as a member any way, but as i say, she will always do a deal.

don't know yet Viv, lets see what sort of Deal i can get, i'll try a few places, but from past experience i think we'll end up back at Detecnicks.
Once i get a firm price, i'll sort out the finances somehow.
Paypal as a gift may be one way, nobody pays charges that way,and i'll pay on my credit card, but have them delivered out direct, or i could give a list of names to the shop perhaps, and everyone pays direct, may be another way.
I'm open to suggestions?

Hi Karl. Not sure if it would be of any help at all but I have to go down to Detecnicks every 2 weeks or so to drop off the Chef-Phones, If it was arranged around the time of a DW rally I could always bring them with me.
If Laura is unable to get the price down, try Regton as they are the importers.

"or i could give a list of names to the shop perhaps, and everyone pays direct, may be another way".

hi karl

another way could be to agree a code word with laura, which can then be emailed to dw members who have expressed an interest in purchasing the probe. we can then approach detecniks direct, quote the code word and then get the agreed price and the probe can then be sent direct to us.

just a suggestion
cheers

I didn't realise that, they can be a bit odd there but to be fair, apart from sending my E-trac to the wrong address (the numpties) they have been pretty good with me. It depends who you deal with.
Regtons aren't too bad, i find they don't like to "haggle" as much

Hi Alan, maybe?, my main concern is once i've done the deal regarding numbers, that everyone honors it and goes through with the purchase.
I'm sure i can trust all involved but i'd hate to see the shop let down whoever it turns out to be. unless i can just strike a blanket D.W. Deal with them? as i said before, simply by being a Minelab owners site member i get an automatic 10% discount of Detecnicks.
Also guys and Girls, we need to strike quick before the VAT goes up in January so we don't have long.
I'm going to e-mail Nick at Detecnicks now and regtons in case their checking mails :)

one way to ensure the deal is to put a time limit of say one week, or whatever u agree with the seller.

that should encourage people to buy one

I have spoken with Laura, I have agreed a Detecting Wales Deal. I have been asked not to post the price but if all those interested would like to PM me i'll pass on the details. ;) :)
This is just a matter of contacting Detecnicks and saying its the Detecting Wales Site price negotiated by Karl. She has said they are in short supply at the moment and they are waiting for some to come in any moment.

Before you all get too exited, Regtons arn't in until tomorrow, they may be up for a better deal i don't know? I just wanted to let people know.

Cheers

Something i should have mentioned is the deal done with Laura isn't volume dependant, its a Detecting Wales Deal, so if only 3 or 4 of us decide to buy, the price will be honored, it stays until the vat goes up then its plus the extra.
I have a feeling i may be able to negotiate a blanket DW discount for members, lets see how this goes.
As i have explained to all who have PM'd me, i'm trying Regtons tomorrow to see if they can offer a better deal, i wont disclose to them the Detecnicks offer as that's not ethical or fair on Laura.
Thanks for your patience.
Karl.

Thanks

Title: Re: Garret Probe
Post by: Salty (Karl) Cardiff Scan Club on December 30, 2009, 11:50:43 AM
Final Update.
Regtons have come back with an offer very slightly less than Detecnicks, however this would involve me purchasing 6 units (no extra discount for 10) having them delivered to me and me distributing them out to those interested. Given the extra carriage costs and monetary logistics i feel its probably better to go with the Detecnics deal.
However if you feel you'd rather me get the 6 from Regtons i will.
Regtons have warned these are in very short supply at the moment, they have stock but dont know for how long.
List price at Regtons is £83 Inclusive of Carriage (this is the non discounted price)
Unfortunately its a case of supply and demand at the moment, with these being in short supply, getting discounts of any significance has proved very difficult.
As i said i would recommend going with detecnicks as its a club discount and not volume dependent, you pay them and its delivered to your door first class recorded all in for the price i've P.M'd those that were interested.
Cheers
Karl.

I am interested too, usually been using whites bullseye, but find them very unreliable and not water resistant.

Since having se pro the need for a pin pointer isnt as frequent, but in sand and wet conditions they come into they re own.

Post by: outlaw on December 31, 2009, 05:36:10 PM
ordered mine yesterday and it arrived this morning. ;D

It knocks spots off the whites bullseye pin pointer, thicker/stronger detection stem, I like the fact its at its maximum sensitivity as soon as its switched on, its good also that as it nears the target so does the sound alter whether its sideways on or under the tip !

You cannot afford to emerse whites at all, yet this one can briefly, or just tape over loud speaker !!!!

Only one critisim, its a pity you cannot have  a volumn control, though i can live without one.

As soon as the sun warms things up a little i shall be out to try it oout  ;D

I can also claim vat back as it could be used as a work tool  ;D

I'm Glad your pleased, you could put a bit of black tape over the speaker outlet if it's too load, but to be honest, when your in the field with your headphones on, it's about perfect, you don't need to take off your cans to hear it and its not that load that it annoys those around you (and if it does, its hard luck as far i I'm concerned ;) )

Good luck
Salty :)

Ha, mine too, Old romantics arn't we ;) its for Mrs Salty's Birthday on Jan the 2n'd. i thought about getting her Channel No5, and as they say, "it's the thought that counts" :D, so i got her a Propointer instead :)
Its her 40th so i thought i'd push the boat out ;D, she'll kill me for posting her age and getting the pinpointer no doubt any way ;D
And for the lady's reading this, i bought her the Perfume as well, ;).. I'm not that brave :)

Hi Karl

Next job is to negotiate a DW deal on the Deus !!!  LOL

Those who have bought won't be disappointed. It's a quality piece of gear. When cleaning it's
just a case of running it under hot water whilst keeping your thumb over the small speaker.

I've had my vibrator Garret probe for about a year and I've put a piece of insulation tape over the speaker, I've found that the vibration is enough to locate finds plus it's easier to clean and unaffected by rain. :)

Have fun with your new toys Boys and Girls!!  ;D ;D

Am I the only person that thinks this detector looks awful and would rather see the proof of its so called qualities 12 to 18 months down the line when it can prove its self.
