Popped out for a days detecting today all by myself to some fields with a known Roman and iron age site on it, unfortunately both areas are welllllllllllllll down deep so there are only the odd chance of finding what they dropped. But I did manage to find 4 Roman grots in total together with a 8 pre decimal coppers, one of which is a Napoleon III 5 centime in better than average condition. Oh well no hammies today but there's always tomorrow Undecided

OK OK OK. The truth is I was abducted by aliens........... well Nobby and Tafflaff (they're not so much out of this world, just weird) and we were on fields that have an incredible high amount of mineralisation which makes it very tough going but as they say "when the going gets tough..who you going to call....three blind mice" or something like that.
Anyway Nobby is carrying the flag of the official sixpence finder while Roman Ray is out of action as he found 3 of them in what seemed like no time, along with a George II copper then struck a Roman grot himself  adding another 2 to the tally later in the afternoon. But his find of the day was a Hammered Halfpenny, not sure of whom yet but hopefully he will post up a pic himself.
Meanwhile I was really happy as Taff hadn't found any coins at all Grin
But as usual that little rain cloud formed over head and started to rain on my parade Cry He first found 2 Roman grots and then a cut half @*&%** not completely sure of whom yet but an early Scottish and possibly David II. Plus another Roman grot.
I did get some brief satisfaction when he managed to drop said hammy and then took a good half hour crawling around with his probe trying to find it Grin
To be fair we tried to locate it with the Etrac, F75, Rutus and Explorer all with no success and when the probe did sing out we found that it had landed on ground with iron below it, so all machines gave an iron signal. Lesson learned.
So 10 Roman and 2 hammies, the weather was kind to us too and completed another great day out Wink
