2 days after Dales post about re-homing some baby birds we recued 4 baby Swallows that had fallen out of the nest. Nothing new, it happens every year. One, in particular, kept on doing it and each time John carefully popped him back in the nest.
Last week John decided to re-furbish the out-side toilet door. By last night he had it finished and resting on trestles ready for the top coat. He finished it  this morning and I must admit it looked pretty good.
After lunch he wandered out to check on it and couldn't believe his eyes. Not only had one of the babies pooped on it but had landed on it and......got stuck on the wet paint. I bet it's the one that kept falling out of the nest.  I wont repeat what John said but after he'd clamed down he said he was going to build bird bath...........6ft deep. We now have a white door with a patch of black feathers and a baby bird with a white bum.
Oh and a very clean patch outside the toilet where John dropped the tin of white paint. Roll Eyes

Val

p.s. John say tell them he wasn't daft enough to paint it under the nest, it was in a different stable.

Watch out for them Dale, they wont be far away.  The babies will be grey as opposed to Mom and Dad with their black and white.  All our babies are flying now. Even the Sparrows nested in the barn this year. We stood watching them this afternoon. Alfred Hitchcock would have loved it. The Birds had nothing on us.
Swallows x 2 broods =9  House Martins x 1 brood = 5  and I think all the baby Sparrows around Thomas Chapel were here for a bath and a party. There must have been at least a couple of dozen.  It's an amazing time of year, and very noisy, (and messy)  Roll Eyes

Love the comments. Wink
