I'm sure some of you will remember this item. I know a couple of you who live down this end said you'd found one or two and none knew what they were.

Talking to a neighbour a few weeks ago I mentioned these disks and it must have piqued his curiosity. He did some of his own research and came up with a plausible ID.  He reckons they are Sacrificial Anodes of ships hulls. They counter the chemicals reaction between the copper hull and the iron nails. Makes sense but I'm not convinced as I couldn't find any reference to copper being used to make the disks. Only Zinc or Iron.

Maybe one of you more knowledgeable members may have some info. on this subject.
