 Grin nick m8 you are right .its more than 2700 years old found in a place EFESOS ancient Hellenic city coast of Asia minor.the stater is made from electrum natural gold.

hi 87 coins were dsicovered all made from electrum, an alloy of silver and gold which is found in its natural state, in the valley of the pectolus. the coins bore a design on one side only, and were to be recognised to be from amongst the earliest coins ever made." the lydians"were the first people to have struck coinage of silver and gold. dated to the late 7th century bc???  mick

It is either the Lydian electrum stater or a Chinese coin such as knife or spade coins or even a round one.

hi just came across some more information about earliest coin  ?? a significant inscription from an 8th century BC North Cyria, within in the assyrian power sphere,the name of "king Barrekub of Zinjirli" marks a round silver ingot, one of three such found. unmarked ingots of the same size and shape as well as smaller pieces of silver were part of a large hoard found in the royal palace. since the inscribed ingots conform to an official weight standard, they can technically be concidered coins  What do you think casa-dos kev?Huh  your shout   mick

hi micky coin, we have accepted for example celtic ring money, so yes possibly marked silver ingots  same weight, and inscription as you have described could well be the earliest coin found yet to date. unless someone knows different  steve

mick i get what zorro was saying there .
imagine a world with no money .yes only one person had a coin or bartering tool .
so you get the pig .was the pig worth the amount traded .
so these where traders that made staters so they could be used to buy stock then more staters made  I GUESS !!!!
