Well, out today and recovered this beautiful token.

we're about 60 miles from birmingham, so one has to wonder how the token made it over here!

From around 1812, during a national shortage of coins, Birmingham was one of several workhouses to issue workhouse tokens — specially minted coins given as poor relief. Local shopkeepers could then redeem the tokens at the workhouse.

Yes its a silver shilling token, never seen a Birmingham workhouse silver, found a few copper pennies of theirs, very big and heavy. Lovely find, I'll keep trying.
