Title: Keeping your macines in tip top condition
Post by: BottyBurp (Kris) on November 09, 2008, 08:23:28 AM
I'm not sure if it's the correct thing to do, but every couple of weeks I give my detectors a good clead in warm soapy water.
I then spray WD40 on a rag & give them a good wipe over, it keeps everything well lubricated & keeps the macines looking like new!
People in our club quite often ask if I've bought a new detector.

Good tip gurp ;D

I use a Spray oil too
When i was in the Motor Trade many moons age we use to use new clean engine oil on a rag for plastic It lasts a bit longer than spray oil.
My White Explorers covered in Vet Wap at the moment but i still use engine oil on a rag for the search coil and like you say it looks like new

Regards
Phi Jones

I religeously clean and dry my machine after every outing. Then give it a wipe down with VDU (visual display unit)/screen wipes, They are like wet wipes but are low lint and alcohol free so it doesnt harm the plastics. They are designed to clean computer screens, monitors etc.
They only cost a couple of quid from computer shops and they keep your machine looking like new.

when my tector gets mucky after a session i wash it,and my wellies, using the hose...then wipe it over with a cloth...but..i'll be taking the advise given here and try WD40 and/or VDU wipes in future...it pays to keep our machines in good order...byron

Its good to keep your machine in clean condition, (important) also clean under the scuff cover.
The Tesoro operators manual says after use, clean the detector with a soft cloth to remove any dust, moisture, or other contaminants.
It also says,Never spray lubricants such as WD40 or any types of cleaners, sealants or other chemical preperation on or into the detector.
Treat your detector as you would any sensitive electronic instrument.
With a Tesoro it could affect your warranty.

i read a tip about cleaning under the scuff cover,it said to immerse the coil in a bowl of warm water first..that helps spring the cover off without damaging it...i've done it.....it was easier !..byron

I wish i had seen this tip a few days ago, I broke mine on Sunday trying to remove it to clean underneath it.
I'll not make that mistake again. Thanks for the tip Byron. ;D

Yes good un BB. I actually don`t get any choice in the matter anyway. Soon as i come in from Tecting, "the dragon" (remember Ada Larkin from the "Larkins" ) Google it if you don`t, bellows out from somewhere in the house,
" get that ruddy `thing` in the back yard ,cleaned straight away ".
So my tector is always a  ...............clean machine. ;D
