Post by: celticspikey on November 09, 2015, 07:43:19 PM
Hi guys, just want to pick your brains,a mate of mine has just had a piece of Hack Gold returned to him.
1oz of Bronze Age...Gold as near as dam it 24 ct.

Any one know of its value, and weather it's worth a bit more due to its provenance and age.?
Thanks Guys

It's on a bit of a downward spiral at the moment so not the best time to sell it's around £720 an ounce at the moment, I don't think there is much if any in the provenance as gold is a free element and has been around for far longer than man has been here so in ingots it's simply been melted together ;)

Thanks guys, and cheers Geoff I had a feeling that was the case with regards to it being Bronze Age. It turns out the landowner has offered to but it to keep in family and has come back with a good price .  ;)

My mate had a great result with the Gold, £1,200. A jeweller in Bath has been commissioned by the farmer to make a piece of family jewellery out of it, the jeweller is happy for the farmer to see the process through from ingot to rings, for obvious reasons the jeweller said they just do not get the provinonce or chance to work with this type of Gold ie Bronze Age..Happy days all round. ;)

I hope that the final result works out to be a beautiful family heirloom for the farmers family, and that you are included in the hand me down story.
Brilliant!!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍

That's a great story.

It reminds me of a novel I read when I was a child. It's called 'The Path of the King' by John Buchan - it's about a gold arm band and it being handed down through the generations, being re-cast, bits sold off and the like.

That's a great result and a lot better than sitting in some Museum drawer.
