Hi, I lost my wedding ring in the river Wye at Monmouth in 1.2m of water, it is about 6inches from the bank and I have marked the spot where I'm sure it went in. The river bed  is silt and small pebbles
Would somebody local be able to help me find it, or could someone advise me about buying an inexpensive detector that would work underwater as I have no idea on these devices:(

Tricky one Jools, it would depend on the speed of flow. I think it is doable but whoever does it is going to need a waterproof detector, and there is no cheap one of those. Dont be too specific with area until someone meets you as our forum can be read by non members.

Id have ago but it's a bit of a trek for me :-(

no chance as the flow of water and debris has been so massive in the rainy months .theres tons of silt been dumped all along the riverbed ,which has been washed off the land side .
ask someone from the rowing club or a canooist
you need a shovel and a bread basket sized sieve to find it
the water is shallow by the bridge at the moment so you can get in with waders on but still tons of slit along there .theres anglers in chest waders walking along there

over a meter needs chest waders and get in with the sieve and a long shovel , a scoop might do it .but hard to pull thru the muck at the bottom.
sieve can be mounted in a inner tube so its floats then just keep shovelling muck into the sieve until the ring appears if it hasnt been flushed away
i use a pointed round mouthed shovel in deep water instead of a scoop as i prefer it
