Title: How's about a F5...
Post by: Dusty on October 29, 2011, 08:27:02 AM
With an 30x25cm SEF coil, wouldn't that be similar to the 8000 with the F75/T2 coil which incidentally couldn't find for the F5....

Any thoughts?

The F5 is another machine that's much underrated in this country as the F75 has proven itself to be a bit of a silent killer on hammered coins, but it is a very good machine in it's own right. I wouldn't worry about the 1" difference on the coil size and if I was going to go bigger then I would probably go for a new Nel coil.

Nice one, cheers Geoff.

It's been quite widely reported in the US that the F5 isn't super deep and at best silvers @ 6" Isn't a big deal really but it's nice to know that a SEF or Nel coil will improve depth and or sensitivity somewhat.

Why the Nel over SEF Geoff, thought SEF were the dogs sensitive parts?!?

Oh they are but the new Nel's are too and seem to be a bit more pro active in regard to sensitivity which is a big bonus on a medium frequency machine (could be a nightmare on a high frequency though) Plus being 12x13 inches they have that little extra on depth but still quite light.

Cheers Geoff, thinking of a XP250 to go with it would that cover most bases?

No your going the wrong way, XP 250 is a 4.9?kHz machine. The F5 runs at 7.8kHz so you need to be looking at more the 14kHz+ machines

Going for the Tesoro Cibola as a second machine, good discrimination apparently..
