Title: Easter hunt, not an egg in sight! Post by: Chef Geoff on April 26, 2011, 03:12:07 PM Well I've had a busy weekend in work as is the norm if your stupid enough to be a chef over Easter ;D. Which meant I couldn't get to the rally but I did find the energy to do some detecting, 2 and a half hours on Sunday and 3 on Monday.
Two different sites both of which were rolled. First Sunday (http://i693.photobucket.com/albums/vv294/Chef_02/EasterSunmon005.jpg) This is a James I penny or what's left of one, but they all count and this brings my count to just 4 this year so it looks like I'm going to do the same as last year with only one a month. (http://i693.photobucket.com/albums/vv294/Chef_02/EasterSunmon006.jpg) Next up was a 17thC ??? token, the coat of arms is a puzzle, but given there seems to be 4 then it could be a borough or town token. (http://i693.photobucket.com/albums/vv294/Chef_02/EasterSunmon009.jpg) 2 nice 17thC shoe buckles (http://i693.photobucket.com/albums/vv294/Chef_02/EasterSunmon008.jpg) And last but not least 3 pieces of Roman grots, The curse continues ;) And Monday (http://i693.photobucket.com/albums/vv294/Chef_02/EasterSunmon015.jpg) A William III farthing, nice to find one with a readable date, 1700 (http://i693.photobucket.com/albums/vv294/Chef_02/EasterSunmon012.jpg) 2 broken buckles, the one on the left is from the 14-15thC (http://i693.photobucket.com/albums/vv294/Chef_02/EasterSunmon010.jpg) I am warming to finding these 17thC trade tokens, not much left on the one on the right other than a crown, but the farthing on the left was issued by Christopher Summer, a Hosier from Glastonbury. (http://i693.photobucket.com/albums/vv294/Chef_02/EasterSunmon016.jpg) And an equally solid (and heavy) pot leg. (http://i693.photobucket.com/albums/vv294/Chef_02/EasterSunmon011.jpg) And of course my day wouldn't be complete without the Romans putting their oar in. But this time it was a nice find, a Dupondius and only the 3rd I've ever found. I may have only 4 hammerds but my Roman coin count for this year is currently 57. It was nice to get away from the Kitchen for a few hours and as like you I'm using the XS which doesn't particularly like fresh ploughed or rolled so most of the finds were quite large (other than the hammy and grots) but that did mean I wasn't too bothered by iffy signals. They are being mowed end of next week so more Romans and fingers crossed staters.
