Title: WHAT A FANTASTIC DAY
Post by: roughneck on June 19, 2017, 08:13:49 PM
Part 1.
Hello folks, myself and Tom went on a new permission of ours yesterday for the first time. went through the gate.switched the Deus on.2 steps had a signal.and out come 50 pence 10 pence 2 pennies.took 3 or 4 steps had a common wealth 2 pence.i carried on across a foot path had another signal ,and dug out one of the most beautiful coins iv seen.been searching the net to find it and I think it Saxon and king Offa, then I had a croatel bell ,then 7 Roman grots,Tom also had a great day.he will probably put his up later.cheers guys. (Been told it's a Moor's Head French Jetton 13th/14th century)  Beautiful coin.

Part 2.

Following on from Ron's post telling of what an enjoyable and fruitful day we experienced on a new permission I have now added photos of my finds.  Not as exciting as Ron's lovely 13th/14th century Moor's Head Jetton but I did unearth 10 Roman coins/grots, what looks like a nice horse pendant, a George 1V farthing, a brooch, a 3 legged rabbit and a tooth?.  (The tooth was in the same hole as one of the coins).
We had a great day, our hosts invited us for lunch in the garden, where we sat around a huge granite table and dined on their own pork sausages, some goats cheese, local beer and great conversation.  Sated, we set out for the second half of our eventful day, with one of our hosts lunchtime guests in tow.
Our hosts and their friends all showed interest in what we were doing and what we were finding, so on returning to the house we set out our finds for them to take photographs whilst we supped on a cup of percolated coffee before we said our farewells and headed for home, elated, exhausted, sun burned and all things in between.  I'm sure it is a day we shall remember for a long time and hopefully, having gained permission to revisit, there will be more memorable days.
Cheers. Tom.
