Title: Re: Some of my finds so far Post by: MarcB on February 02, 2016, 10:11:30 AM Nice token - I like the interesting white metal token as well. I've attached some information about it When I found out what it was yesterday I thought what a great piece of history found when the information goes with it. Thanks Title: Re: Some of my finds so far Post by: Chef Geoff on February 02, 2016, 12:03:39 PM Very well done Mark you've had a productive start when I think about my first couple of outings I'm amazed I didn't give the hobby up ;)

But I'm getting much better listening to the tones now and even guessing what the item is before digging it up. I do leave the quite iron tones though. Edit: Can someone help with the cherub looking item please. It's very fragile found on pasture Title: Re: Some of my finds so far Post by: Val Beechey on February 02, 2016, 04:05:38 PM You've certainly got some productive land there Mark. Lovely selection of finds. That buckle, although not precious metal, would have been a belter when it was new. Probably late 1700's or thereabout.
Well done, keep them coming. Much more to be had yet. Title: Re: Some of my finds so far Post by: dingdong on February 02, 2016, 05:47:56 PM Well found Mark, great selection of very, very nice finds, well done.👍
Title: Re: Some of my finds so far Post by: MarcB on February 02, 2016, 06:52:12 PM Thank you both.
What do you think pictures no# 2 and 5 from my first post are? Title: Re: Some of my finds so far Post by: Val Beechey on February 02, 2016, 07:32:27 PM Not seeing the back of no 2 I'd say it's a brooch. It looks to be silver, have you tested it. Are those hall marks on the 'petals'.
No 5 not sure what it is. If you turn it a 1/4 to the left it looks like a flower. Could be furniture decoration. Title: Re: Some of my finds so far Post by: Bill from Lachine on February 02, 2016, 08:03:15 PM Mark,
I like your Chinese token. Regards + HH Bill Title: Re: Some of my finds so far Post by: MarcB on February 03, 2016, 02:52:29 PM Cheers going back out this Sunday.
Still trying to get an ID on the cherub looking find. Hmm Title: Re: Some of my finds so far Post by: Chef Geoff on February 03, 2016, 03:23:27 PM Mark we would need some better shots of it both front and reverse to even try an id, what metal is it?

I think it's pewter, very brittle. You can see a wing, what looks to be legs. 1st picture is the reverse Title: Re: Some of my finds so far Post by: Val Beechey on February 03, 2016, 04:54:09 PM I thought I could see a leg on the other pics. Now I can see 2 legs and a wing. I think it's either a winged horse or some other animal, not a cherub.
Still have no idea what it might have been attached to though. Title: Re: Some of my finds so far Post by: MarcB on February 03, 2016, 05:25:38 PM I thought I could see a leg on the other pics. I've gone through 100's if not at least a 1000 finds now on finds.org Title: Re: Some of my finds so far Post by: probono on February 04, 2016, 10:09:43 AM Very well done Mark you've had a productive start when I think about my first couple of outings I'm amazed I didn't give the hobby up ;) I know how you felt - it took me nearly 20 years between my first radioshack detector, which I only ever used in my garden to getting a proper detector, another 7 years to find permission (foot and mouth got in the way) and then two years before I learned how to use one and started finding things! |
