Title: Glass bead how old ?
Post by: Tafflaff (Rob) on January 20, 2011, 11:23:39 PM
Hi Peter , got this today on a Roman site. Its definately glass but we're split on its age. I know blue beads are found on Roman sites but this does smack of being modern.

Any ideas, also silver artifact to id

I have trawled the net and google images, I can't find and exact match but that colour is so typically Roman and they had some that are quite intricate.

Nice going on the Silver "thingy", Made by Pearce & Thompson of Birmingham in 1908. Still not a scooby on what it is though.

This is a small selection of the hat pins they made, so I'm going with hat pin.

I like the hallmarked silver.

I haven't seen a Roman bead like that. I'd guess it's more likely to be modern.

A few years ago I found a sky blue Iron Age bead, eyes only at the base of a fort.  It has a hole for threading through to make a necklace.

Well done though, some nice finds.
