advice on asking for permission

i might have a chance to detect a bit of land by Llanvihangel Crucorney, abergavenny way,
its not farmed only horses kept on it and silage and hay cut.
what is the usual asked for or offered to the land owner.

Nothing other than courtesy , honesty . Show the farmer your finds , and explain that anything  of significant value will be split between yourself and the farmer. Explain that if treasure trove is found it will have to go to the museum and is still split 50/50 between you and the farmer. Offer any help he may need with finding plough blades, lost jewellery ect.

Even if you get knocked back with a refusal go to the next farm and try again,think of it as sex on a saturday night the more you people you ask the more chances you get.

I explained all the sharing and treasure trove to them, (i work with the land owners son) they say i wont fiind anything on there, there's nothing there.
The site is not far from the skirrid mountain, i know the Skirrid is off limits to detect on i think there used to be an iron age fort on it.
The main thing is they havent said no!
One can only wait and see hey!

Its always nice to show them your f.i.d badge
proof of who you are if they say there is nothing on the land
ask them if its been detected on before if they
say yes bid them goodbye and walk away if
they say no just ask them straight if they mind
if you have a look as a lot of people think there is nothing on
their land and then been surprised whats turned up
and always be polite and respect full but if one says no
dont let it put u off move on to the next farm and ask

It's always difficult when they say there is nothing there, sometimes it's because they don't want people walking on the land. It may be that they dispose of something (carcasses) in a way that the present rules don't allow and if no-one sees it then nothing can be said!
I got thrown off some land that I had permission on because of carcasses in a ditch (I think) and they are very wary of being reported.
