Title: Hammered coin? Post by: Landyman on March 08, 2015, 11:49:45 AM Found this recently. Is well battered and worn and in 2 bits.
I think this one will beat the doc and any other experts here but thought that maybe someone might see something on it that will at least confirm it is a hammered coin. Measures 16mm at widest point. Title: Re: Hammered coin? Post by: BugbrookeBen on March 08, 2015, 01:37:50 PM It could be anything, from hammered coins to a William iii Sixpence ???

I can see the figures now you have pointed them out. I dont know much about roman silver but I thought that roman would be a bit thicker? This is thin. Same as a hammered. Title: Re: Hammered coin? Title: Re: Hammered coin? Post by: Landyman on March 09, 2015, 02:19:12 PM I dont know about roman coins as I have not found many but are there any silver roman coins as thin as a hammered coin??
Title: Re: Hammered coin? Post by: Chef Geoff on March 09, 2015, 02:56:37 PM I've certainly never encountered a Roman silver as thin as a hammy so I would discount that, given its size of 16mm it puts it in the Eddy halfpenny range. You say it's not pink but I presume there is some reddening to it which often denotes a higher than normal copper content and possibly point to it being a continental issue :-\
