Title: Sunshine and a small swing.

Hi all fancied a few hours today so went to a new pasture field   all was good weather was stunning grass height was perfect.  So opened the boot got machine out got kitted up through the gate turned on machine way to go.  No left spade in boot no worries went back to boot to collect spade only to find no spade!!!!  Ummm where is the spade ah left in another field few days earlier.  So used my mole trowel talk about back breaking stuck to it anyway.

Nice going Al you'll have to take your lucky trowel more often lol, pic 2 and 3 is a Saxon stirrup mount not sure about no1 but it looks interesting ;)

You lucky begger.   Can it be a seal though ?   I can see a cross and DEI   as in  'In Nomini Dei'   should it be reversed ?

Nothing that's leaps out at me ??? Looking at it now though I'm beginning to think that it is a seal matrix, the word DEI is one of few that can be reversed but if read upside down reads correctly :-\
I think it would have been an Agnus Dei (lamb of god) seal with the lance and pennant similar to the one below ;)

Pity the seal is broken Geoff yes ian handle was fine but my trowel blade was starting to bend.

Nice job you've recovered quite a bit of detail.....mind you using a  camera and not a phone helps ;D ;)

Thanks for the clarification Geoff.  Apart from the open mouth it still looks more like a horse  ::)

Alan,
 I found an interesting reference to the seal on Wiki.  It said Medieval Agnus Dei seals were widely used. The Lamb of God being the only one worthy of opening the 7 seals being a big belief at the time.  They were sometimes used to press into wax and create an impression that was (probably) sold to believers and sometimes mounted into jewellery.
