Title: Re: Roman silver. Post by: probono on October 24, 2014, 12:17:53 PM Nice one - good reverse and good metal too by the looks of it. It's this one:-
Septimius Severus Denarius. L SEPT SEV PERT AVG IMP VIII, laureate head right / ADVENTI AVG FELICISSIMO, Severus on horseback right raising hand. RSC 6. It's on wildwinds, but they've missed out the AVG in the description (-it's clear enough from the coin it's the same type) Title: Re: Roman silver. Post by: Val Beechey on October 24, 2014, 12:58:18 PM That's a lovely looking coin Doug. The soil where you are must be very kind. I've seen a couple found over my side of the country and they've been as black as coke.
Well found. Val Title: Re: Roman silver. Title: Re: Roman silver. Post by: Val Beechey on October 25, 2014, 01:25:58 PM Most of the places I've detected down this end have either soil, once removed from peat or a couple of inches of course soil and then what the locals call rab. They use it for hard core on paths and in gateways and it's a burger to dig through. Never seem to have many signals in those areas, thank goodness.
Sandy soil sounds nice, wouldn't mind some of that. Val Title: Re: Roman silver. Post by: Dale on October 26, 2014, 01:20:52 PM Well found Doug ;)
