I went to Rest Bay Porthcawl over the bank holiday weekend and took the E-Trac on the beach, I found 2 £1 coins and a grotty 10p and then had a cracking signal at the base of a large rock. I dug down at least a foot and this beauty popped out. My 10yo Granddaughter who was with me asked me if she could have it...how could I refuse?lol. The clasp is broken and as soon as I have it repaired it's hers. You win some you lose some.lol  Smiley Smiley
Forgot to mention...the links are solid 9ct gold and the chain weighs 48.5 grams.

Thats a cracking find well done Dickle! Very good of you to give it to your grand daughter as well - tell her to take care of it (its over £300 in scrap gold alone).

Congratulations

Great find. Did you find any lead weights from fisherman? No-one seems to mention finding any.

Thanks for the valuation Neil, I'm having second thoughts now....no chance! lol. Smiley

Jon Yeh it surprised me I didn't find any fishing weights, As you look out to sea I was searching well to the right of the main beach and it's very rocky in that area probably too rocky for fishermen

I know a good fisherman can cast a weight about 200 yards but with the tide line I am always surprised more weights aren't found. They are a combination of lead, steel and sometimes copper so you'd think they would show up in our radar even with discrimination. Very, very nice to see gold though  Grin Well done Dickle!

Thanks lads and Millsy NO I did NOT find it by my van I found it on the beach, if you look at the photo of my van you'll see that under it it is green, green is GRASS, now look at the photo of the chain, see those little granules? That's SAND which you find on most beaches.I swear to God if he keeps on about that bloody ring he found by my van at the 1st rally I'm going to swing for him.lol  Cheesy Cheesy

I find a lot of lead weights when i go on the beach, there should not be many where you were detecting as the steepness of the wall where they fish off by there allows safe retrieval of the tackle, also a lot of people walk the beach picking up all the traces. At 80p a weight , cant blame em!

oops , ps Well done on the Gold!  Grin

I didn't know fishing weights were so expensive , I usually put them in my scrap "lead bucket" and weigh them in at the end of the year .

That's an amazing find Dickle, hope you find more next time you go, gives you a lot of the confidence in the machine when you find something that stunning the first time out.
