The silver/aluminium thingy looks like a furniture decoration, maybe Art Nuveau?

Should be more like this if straightened out.

Some nice finds there Geoff, even though they are few and far between! I thought I would add to this thread rather than make a new one as I don't have much to report on either! My last post about two weeks back was in some new fields I managed to get, but these aren't no ordinary fields, oh no! They have grass on it, I can see you all saying, nothing new about grass, well, there is grass, and then there is grass, and well, then there is this grass on these fields. Its' called Elephant Grass, and you can see why, it's still got a year to grow and already is taller than me!! I have taken two pictures for you to see. And all I came away with this time is a worked flint and a Victoria Sixpence, quite worn but the date appears to be 1850, the one with the 0 struck over a 3, not worth much, oh well. So yes, I haven't found much as one can see, this was found a week ago, dying to get out to do some proper detecting, can't be detecting in this Jungle grass forever, it's difficult as it is. Need a rally guys, somewhere, anywhere.

No problems Jon, add away Wink if we all keep adding some finds it might add up to one good days detecting. Looking at your photo's I now know where you are and when the ground is more favourable you should get lots of Roman from there.

Must admit those fields make mine look like a walk on the beach and I was cussing one of them yesterday. What do they use that grass for ?? Nice bit of Flint there.

I thought this was a good thread Geoff. Hope you don't mind us jumping on the band wagon. Grin

No Problems Val, I may even add another one tomorrow unless I find something nice Cheesy
I think they use the Elephant grass for Bio-Fuel, one of those moral dilemma crops.

Hi Val and Geoff, yes, Geoff is right about the usage of the grass! Although the farmer hasn't done it yet, he is hoping to get a grant in order to build a pool and the grass is what fuels the heating of it! He is wanting to convert one of his old sheds into a pool. It's a nice idea, but he was turned down the grant last year, so he has reapplied this year. So he has one lot of hay already on the chance he gets the grant. I assume if he does not get it, he may end up putting crops back onto the fields come Autumn time or spring next year, as I am not sure which is more profitable? We shall see. When I walk through it, it makes me feel like I'm in a Sugar Cane field or something.

Not sure what sort of hay it would make. A bit rough I should think. Still I s'pose the cows would eat it. If he turns that lot back into the field you'll have some fun digging.
I've been in 2 little ploughed fields the last week and they were very boggy with loads of sedge. Thats all been turned with the plough and it's tough to dig into as it hasn't rotted yet. Up side is the ground is soft and moist.
