Well the bank holiday for me just means more work and less play, oh and no Monday off Grrrrrrrrr!
I did manage to escape to the wilds for 2 hours, this was to what I'm now calling the Battle field because of all the musket balls, one of these musket balls has just been tentatively id'd as grape shot which takes it out of the ranks of a routine skirmish.
I took a video camera to recreate the range of those being shot at given the known firing line and the main area where the musket balls impacted into the earth, by walking towards the camera I can now see where the combatants would of been in the field when there torso's (kill area) is aimed at.
OK back to , well not a lot :'( I did manage to swing the coil for an hour during which time I got at least some reward.

I've been grumbling at the lack of depth but my god this was deep, and all that digging for a 1866 Halfpenny :'(

Next up was this Nuremberg Jetton, but not the usual Mr krauwinkle this time. It's a Wolf Laufer 1630-50

And last but not least the obligatory Roman find, this time yet another grot from the late 3rd early 4th century

Don't talk to me about tomorrow.  Angry
Well you did get more diggable signals than me, but I think (hope lol) that everyone is having slim pickings at the moment, well everyone except Nordine Cheesy
Alan do we have a new camera?

thats the sum total of 8 hours on the local field!!!!

ground was still rock hard despite a few showers on thursday. best part of today was farmers daughter turning up with an ace 150 and pulling out a geo 3 ha'penny and crotal bell! .. all in first 10 mins of being on the field.

as for the bullets ...literally  hundreds of the blighters!

good luck for monday !!

Nice to see you're still finding goodies Geoff and Alan. Don't be too disappointed about tomorrow Geoff, it's going to be a rubbish day. Lots of rain.

Well I have to agree. It's tough going at the mo. I made the effort to get out for 3 hours this afternoon. I didn't go yesterday, it was raining and didn't stop till it was too late to go.
I couldn't believe the grass. It must have sucked up every rain drop and grown another 3 inches over night. But the soil is still like hardcore.
I very quickly migrated to the little ploughed field and worked my way over to the next little ploughed that I haven't been in yet. Got to the far end and my batteries went. ARGGGGGGH. Who'd left the spares in the car. You guessed it. Roll Eyes Well a long walk back, changed the batteries and off again.
My rewards. Usual grot, and hey, A SARDINE TIN. Did get what would have been a really nice half moon horse brass, bent in the middle. And Geoff, you moaned about digging deep for an 1866 half penny. I had a cracking signal (in the plough) at 12in. Had to dig it, it was so good. Got right down to the black stuff from the bog and got a brass door knob. Huh
Ah well, we can't have silver every day, can we. Roll Eyes

O.K. so which is it Huh sort it out boys. I'd be happy with it, whichever. At present I seem to be finding either early 1800's or Mesolithic and not in between. Did you say Cannon ?  Shocked
