Title: A piece of Roman Hypocaust tile I think.
Post by: herbie on February 17, 2013, 02:38:12 PM
Found this a few months ago whilst out on my Roman field, didn't think too much about it at the time, but have done a bit more research and believe it to be part of a Roman Hypocaust tile, which, if it is sheds a whole new light on my site :)

Not sure about the hypocaust but it certainly looks like a Roman tile ;)

here's a few pics from a local project that we're involved with. it could be part of a box flue tile

Herbie, sorry I didn't mean it wasn't a hypocaust tile in fact it "probably" is, just that the tiles used in a hypocaust were the same as any other tile (walls, floor etc), the marks are just mortar keys.

Sorry Chef, didn't realise that, it's just the ones I'd looked at were all hypocaust tiles, which obviously led me down that route ;)
