Title: New to Metal Detecting
Post by: Scrupples on February 11, 2013, 10:29:39 PM
Hi all Scrupples here

I have had an interest in getting started in metal detecting for sometime but never got round to it, i finaly bit the bullet today and ordered my first metal detector, after reading about all the different types available i decided to go for the Garrett Euro Ace (hopefully i havent made a bad decision)

So while i wait on it arriving i have been reading various posts trying to see what rules etc are associated with metal detecting along with do's and dont's.

While reading  i have seen the NCMD mentioned quite a few times (Is this something that is required for me to join before i start detecting)

Also i have noticed that the Brecon Detectors club hasnt had a post in nearly a year, does anyone know if it still runs?

Lastly if anyone had any advice they wish to share for a newbie it would be greatly appreciated.

welcome to the site scrupples

re brecon, talk, or PM to outlaw, he can fill you in on the brecon club.

as for insurance .. yep, i would say its an absolute necessity.  Either NCMD or FID, check them out first.

beach detecting, you can download a free permit for crown beaches on the crown estate website.

other than that, welcome aboard and if in doubt, just ask

Have a look at the NCMD website using a search engine. ;)

Welcome to DW Scrupples.  Just do a Google search for NCMD you can join on-line and it's not much, about £9.00 I think. The beach licence can be done on-line as well and is free,
Detecting is a world of questions. Just ask them as they arise. Always someone to sort you out on here and no one will think it's a 'daft' question.
When you get your machine get used to it in the garden. You'll be surprised what you'll find.

Happy Hunting

Val

Alun, it's a prime requesite of being a detectorist. Who else would willingly walk up and down a thousand times listening to beeps and bloops in the freezing cold. And even when nothing found of interest, go back for more. :o ::) ;D

sorry you must have misunderstood what i wrote, i had attempted to drop a pm but there was a verification box in the pm section that was not showing a verification code which was preventing me from sending a pm, but i have have since been able to send a pm and have recieved my reply, at no point was i complaining, appologies if you took it this way.

Don't worry I think most people understood what you meant, the PM system only works after you have made 3 (or 5?) forum posts which you have now done and should now work ;)
