once u have your insurance, make sure you visit the portable antiquity scheme website and read the advice booklet for detectorists thats on there.

also know how to record the location of your finds, particularly those over 300 yrs old. A good detectorist takes a gps 10 fig reading of the find spot and passes the find over to the local Finds Liaison Officer for official recording.

recording our heritage is so important.

Tia, i cant over emphasize how much better you'll enjoy detecting if you go along and join a club, all the answers to your questions, no one will look or talk down to you, you get your insurance, land to detect on, company to go with.i honestly dont think you could ever get the best from this hobby without joining a club mate ;) :)
