Title: Xterra 50 -- rocks!!!
Post by: handyman [Alan} on November 02, 2015, 09:02:20 AM
A few weeks ago i had the good fortune to send my Deus back for repair, so i took the opportunity to break out my old  trusty xterra50 and give it a really good airing at a local rally. This was my first ever machine 10 years ago, and a real favourite as it still comes up trumps whenever i feel the urge to take it out!

Well i have never had a hat trick of hammies before that day ... and boy did it turn up trumps! 3 lovely Elizabethan shillings, all in an area of 2 sq metres..... [though i did extend the search area around it over time!]

One was on the surface, which meant there was a good possibility of others .. and true enough, 2 more were found 1 metre away from it.

i can make out the mintmarks of the Tun, but not sure if others are a woolpack and cross crosslet. Any confirmation on these two would be very helpful.

Whilst for some, the temptation to clean is paramount, these were handed in for recording as pictured and are now part of the treasure process.

Cheers and enjoy

Xterra50 rocks!  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Very well found Al.  Will you get them back ?  Be a shame if you didn't.

If it was Wales he wouldn't........

Fanatastic finds - I found just one last year - I'm convinced there are / were more there myself, but no luck so far.

I was going to say you will have to hand them in, but you've already done that :D

Do you think there are others there as well? They look very well preserved.

First one looks like cross / crosslets, the second looks like woolpack.

The second and third have really quite nice portraits, the first (being earlier) is still very nice, but with a more worn portrait - suggests a loss in the 1590s.

Hi Roland

i spent a good 90 minutes working an area of 4m diamater from the 1st find. I worked it all directions very methodically and then borrowed a friends Deus to go over it as well. Unlikely that there are any more in the immediate area..

The good news is that the farmer deep ploughed the area for the first time in many years and must have disturbed some of the subsoil, which brought these coins close  to the surface. I know where i'll be going next time the rally group return to the field.

I,m pleased i didn't find them in Wales!!!!  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Nothing older about the Xterra 50 tech it's exactly the same as the newer one other than some button short cuts. ;)

Yes strangely enough while Minelab at one of the worst and shuffling the cards and calling it a new model they tend to keep the prices the same.
Other the BBS coming along in 1998 there hasn't been any new technology in metal detecting since 1976 it's been refined and no doubt improved but it's the same system :-\
