I was wondering if you can date this Brooch for me and tell me what style it is such as dolphin etc
It measures 35mm long

Lovely looking brooch Wayno, Yes it's a Dolphin brooch but most are, it's a Colchester/Polden hills derivative but I shall consult the bible and let you know it's type. It will date from the first half of the 2nd century.


I can't find a direct comparison but I would stick with Polden hills as the type, my only query is the edges of the bow have been "nibbled" and I wonder how far the sides may have protruded and if it may have been a saw tooth brooch. But still the same date 70-140 AD (ish) Wink

Look like casting sprues on the sides. maybe lost before it could be filed smoothe.
