Ok so now i have had a goods night sleep and feeling refreshed, its time to clean the coins Just wanted to know what you thought of this cleaning method Soak the bronze coins in olive oil for 2 weeks and then check them every now and then Once i feel there a lil shiner, clean down with soft dry towel Is that the best way as i have heard tons of methods but i feel this si the safest way. Its just i never get coppers in good condition, this field was rather kind. The detail on it was fantastic ......when I got home i put olive oil on it...it darkened is , now the detail is to dark to see. So its not always the best thing to do .

On most bronze items this works. Rub it gently in circles, on your trousered leg, jeans are the best. Will buff any dull bronze piece, and is great on coins as it brings out the high points, showing lost detail. What I do. On some of my Roman bronze coins, if they still have the patina (smooth surface) I use dark green boot polish, works a treat. But has to be only on the smooth patinad surface, otherwise will be porous and just go dark and horrible. I have taken it out of the oil and just cleaned it down with a brush. ooo well, cant win them all. |
