I popped out Yesterday afternoon to the only field that I have that is either not under crop or knee deep in grass for sillage.
This is one of the group of fields I was detecting at the back end of last year that has been detected for the last 2 decades by the local Weston club. My intention was to shoot a short video hopefully showing that a site is never detected out as far as ferrous targets are concerned. Well firstly I realised on getting there that I had forgotten the video camera and my still camera still had shots that I hadn't downloaded and only having a 4gig memory card fitted I wasn't going to get much on it, but "if" I thought, I turn the quality down I may get all I need so hey hoo.
Now on getting out of the car I looked down and lying on the floor was........
"see a penny pick it up"
The next thing I found was....that I still suffer from hay fever :'(, this was the first bad attack I have had for nearly 20 years and was to eventualy curtail my detecting for the day.
Well "they" the club had certainly missed signals, although thin on the ground they were there to be dug. Over one of the signal, which turned out to be a button was this rather macabre but lucky talisman.
A Rabbits foot.
Well after only half an hour the battery in the camera went dead so that put pay to the video, 3 hours in and by now, wanting to scratch my own eyes out I decided enough was enough having proved my point with this lot.
The very last signal was a bit jumpy but I decided to dig it up anyway as it was deep and I did have 2 lucky symbols, which must mean something.....well, after about 18 inches I spied rust
and on removal, well....
Uhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Now I have to admit it's a 17th century keyhole shoe so I shouldn't complain but come on.
I'm not generally superstitious but I did buy a lottery ticket on the way home.
