Well.....been to the museum and its not a Saxon Strap End!! Its been identified as a 12th to 13th Century Book Clasp from a very expensive book. Arh well still a cool find  Smiley

Still a cool find? it's a brilliant find and in fantastic condition, it would have been on the end of a strap so you were almost right and what's 200 years between friends Grin It still gets my vote for best find so far for 2015 Wink

Cracking item ,it could be Anglo -norman strapend  or book clip ..Very important if it has come from NORTHUMBRIAN EMPIRE of 10th /11th century..Its quality suggest a later date than Saxon 7,8,9th century...Late Viking /Saxon influence ...Rob
