Like all detectors it would depend on soil conditions, power of the detector etc, etc. I am sure Chef will be able to enlighten on this as he is a bit of a genius when it comes to detectors.

Who me???? thanks Paul I'm blushing lol.
Hi Sinky....OK well the V30 is regarded as an entry machine but on an old halfpenny you should expect to get a respectable 6"-7" depth, on a 5p piece you are probably down to around 4".
