I currently own a Garrett Ace 250 but planning on an upgrade in the new year. I am more than happy with the performance of the Garrett in the context of 'in land' detecting but would like something that performs better on wet sand (although I have had some success with the Garrett in this environment). I am considering the Fisher F5, as this is within my price range and have read claims that it is effective on wet sand. Has anyone had any experince with this detector? Or could somene suggest another make/model within a similar price range? It's a shame the XTerra is a couple of hundred pounds more than the Fisher - that would make life so much easier. Oh well, back to the drawing board. :D

Ye considered a second hand machine but have just noticed that some retailers offer interest free payment schemes, so looks like I might get a Minelab after all ;D. The 3 year warranty is also a good selling point.

Yes there are loads that are "effective" but they are all running at half power and efficiency. The Sovereign, regardless of model and age, is the best VLF machine on the beach, wet and dry, ever made.
