Title: Any help would be apreciated Doc!
Post by: Christoph1945 on August 31, 2013, 12:25:56 PM
On Saturday the weather was so fine, I decided to put in a couple of hours at Talacre and exercise the EuroAce with the 4.5 inch Sniper coil fitted. As usual, I recovered the same old WWII ordnance scrap and then this little guy popped up. At three inches down; it initially looked like I had found my self a silver hammered, but it then started to look like it was going to be foil from some chocolate money!

Initial cleaning has revealed it to be possibly all that is left from a lost tunic button. It is inscribed SALZE + LEONARD     ARCHIEPI and the date 1512.
It also carries the coats of arms for the Archbishop of Salzburg and the family Keutschach.

A modern blazer button I'm afraid Chris, though it is a copy of a coin of Leonard Keutschach 1495-1519 who was Archbishop of Salzburg ;).

Shucks, I thought that I finally had something of real interest off the sands at Talacre. Why on earth use that design on a modern blazer? Thanks for taking the trouble to look.   :)

I was a bit miffed to find out that it was just a bit of modern tat, but I did enjoy researching the coat of arms and the date inscribed on it. I still don't understand why some modern gent would want to have it emblazoned on his jacket!   ::)
