well done young nomad!

btw - re woodland -l do your historical research -

is it an old wood or a newly planted one within the past 100 years.
could it have been an old deer park ... [not that type of old dear!!!]

where are the public footpaths and where do they lead to.

cheers and happy bear hunting

Don't just take a shovel take a screwdriver, knife ect. When you get a signal from under a big root you will need them.

Trouble with searching woodland this time of year is usually the undergrowth is too much to get thru, unless its dense pine, either way prepare yourself for a pouch full off cartridge ends/musket balls! Usually find something of interest and even found a shortcross cut halfpenny in woods once. Good luck mate.

Try and get hold of a "Jab saw" with a sheath that can fitted to belt as these are very handy for cutting through tree roots which can be a nightmare  when trying to retrieve finds from the ground.

I have a Stanley one which I paid £6.00 for you might get another brand cheaper,I always take it with me when detecting in woodland.

Good luck in your search!.
